Workplace Charging Scheme: £500 a socket, up to 40 sockets

The workplace grant is the largest of the surviving schemes by socket count, and the site conditions are stricter than most applicants expect.

What you get
"The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints (including VAT), capped at a maximum of £500 per socket, 40 sockets across all sites per applicant." The rate rose from £350 to £500 on 1 April 2026, and gov.uk confirms that businesses are eligible for up to £500 per socket for installations completed from that date "regardless of when they applied for a grant". Funding runs to 31 March 2027 (Find a grant).
Who can apply
Businesses, charities, public sector organisations and small accommodation businesses, in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland but not the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. State-funded education institutions apply under a separate strand at up to £2,000 per socket.
The site conditions
- You own the property, or hold the landlord's consent for chargepoints at every site listed on the application.
- The site has dedicated off-road parking clearly associated with the premises, and you can evidence that it is for staff or fleet rather than customer use. It may be on site or a reasonable distance from the place of work.
- Chargepoint parking must be designated to you, although the rest of the car park may be shared.
- Find a grant recommends having the site surveyed by an installer before you apply.
- A business may let local residents use the chargepoints outside the hours staff and fleet vehicles normally need them. Public authorities, charities and small accommodation businesses have no restriction on who uses the parking.
If the chargepoints will be public
Find a grant states that if you make the chargepoints available to the public you must comply with the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 and the associated guidance. That is a materially different operating position from a staff car park, so decide it before specifying hardware and back-office contracts, not afterwards.
Working from home, and employees' homes
If your primary place of work is your home, you can apply under the workplace scheme provided the address is listed as your place of business at Companies House or appears on a business rates bill, and you have off-road parking. Employers can also install at employees' homes for company vehicles where the employee cannot charge at work, with an evidence letter to DVLA. In both cases you must use an authorised installer and a chargepoint eligible for both residential and commercial use: a residential-only model will get the claim declined.
